The historic Square in the centre of Dornoch is to have a modern housing complex at the head of it.
<br> Planning permission was granted this week, this is despite the vast majority of Dornoch residents being against it. <br> It was past by the Sutherland planning committee which includes the local council represenetive Mr Duncan Allen, roll on the next council elections! <br> <br> In years to come this will be spoken about as "how could anyone let them build that carbuncle where it is" the names of those responsible will be remembered. <br> The only people who will win out of this are the property developers, who will walk away with 100s of thousand pounds in profit. <br> With the loss of car parking spaces to the development, and with the extra car parking spaces that will be needed to cater for those living in the development, how will businesses in Dornoch expand when people wont be able to park in it! <br> <br> Talk about short sighted! They could park in the Meadows car park which is always empty or the new card park the developers will be providing at the Business Park! |

What new car park at the business park?
<br> This sounds like inside information! <br> <br> However the carpark there is already part of the plan for the business park, so it is not new space, its just a way for the council to get out of the hole it has dug for its self! <br> <br> So " someone", like me, do you work for the council, or is it the developer? |

The carbuncle cannot be any worse than the one that has been there for years - Dornoch Police Station.
<br> <br> Could it possibly look any more out of place? <br> The new houses will hopefully hide this monstrosity from the gaze of people driving down the square! |

I have only lived here for about the last 18 months,if I had have seen this building in place I may well not have bought here, it will destroy part of the character of the town and will lead to others not buying.
<br> Of course second home buyers will snap the development up, and they will stand empty for most of the year, what good is that for Dornoch? <br> <br> And how could the local councillors support the thing when so many local residents are against it? What was in it for them? <br> |
