Dornoch Community Transport

We have now taken delivery of a brand new Volkswagen ID.3 which will operate as a community car for anyone residing in the IV25 post code area.

The all-electric vehicle will provide an environmentally-friendly addition to transportation services and help link Dornoch and its neighbouring communities with the wider Highlands.

The community car can be booked by anyone who resides within the IV25 post code area.  The aim is to provide additional transportation where the current provision is patchy or non-existent. Helping people attend appointments at Raigmore Hospital may well be one of the key demands for this new service, but it can be used for so many other reasons such as to travel to Golspie or Tain to catch a train, visit the leisure centre, or attend an appointment with the optician.

We also hope the new car will help people in the villages around Dornoch to attend social events and classes in town whether it’s a one-off coffee morning or a regular exercise class.

Dawn Noble is the project co-ordinator, based in the Hub. We have already recruited over a dozen volunteer drivers, but can still take on a few more. Use of the service is free, but donations to support our running costa will be gratefully received

This community transport scheme has been made possible thanks to start-up funding from the Community Regeneration Fund, Development Trusts Association Scotland, Anne Duchess of Westminster and the Highland Council.

By 30th September we have logged up over 3234 miles on the car for 64 journeys.
