All for Madonna's Wedding

The Scottish Song goes "Step we gaily on we go, Heel for Heel and Toe for Toe, Arm in Arm and Row in Row, All for Mhairi's Wedding". But this week in Dornoch it's All for Madonna's Wedding.

The week has started well on the weather front. Clear, crisp, frosty mornings set against wide open blue skies, with the sun shining brightly close to the horizon. The sun rises at eight in the morning and goes to bed at four in the afternoon, so mornings are the best time for exploring our sandy beaches and woodlands. In the afternoon you can wander through our pleasant town, where sandstone buildings open on to little streets & closes. We have a traditional Scottish Square, which is a wide open space where the Pipe Band march, overlooked by the Castle on one side and the Cathedral on the other.

In winter Dornoch is usually a quiet , peaceful village, calm after the storm of a busy summer season, where the locals can again park in front of the shop they are visiting and take time to pass the time of day with their neighbours. However, this week Dornoch will receive unprecedented attention as Madonna has chosen this idyllic setting for her imminent marriage to Guy Ritchie, the father of her son Rocco, who will be christened in the Cathedral.

Why they have chosen Dornoch and Skibo Castle for the "celebrity wedding of the year" is open to speculation. However Guy and Madonna are not the first, nor the last couple to be drawn to this spectacular location. Firstly the historic Cathedral, which is the focal point of the Royal Burgh, is an enchanting backdrop for taking their sacred vows. The acoustics are superb and the power of the chorus brings this building to life and awakens the spiritual aspect in everyone present.

Far from the madding crowd, the peace and tranquillity of the Scottish Highlands adds poignancy to your special day, and is also an ideal environment to reflect on the more important things in life.

If Madonna's choice of location inspires you to choose the Scottish Highlands for that all important day, or even the honeymoon afterwards, more information can be found at www.highland-wedding.com or use the links on this site to contact specific hotels in the Dornoch area.
