Scottish Archaeology Month at Ledmore & Migdale Woods

Three events are being run as follows:

Thursday 2nd October - Canadian Camp rediscovery 10am-4pm FREE

The Canadian lumberjacks had three camps in the Dornoch area.  Come and find the remains of their camp in the woods of Spinningdale and, using plane tables, plan some of their buildings.

Please bring suitable outdoor clothing and a packed lunch.

Meet Anne Coombs at Torroy carpark. From the A949 in Spinningdale, turn onto the minor road sign posted to Migdale. Torroy is 0.6 miles on the right. Postcode IV24 3AD Grid ref. NH662 9090.

Tuesday 7th October - A walk around Spinningdale - 2pm FREE

Join Susan Kruse for a walk around Spinningdale, exploring remains from the industrial age and other sites linked with the heritage around Ledmore and Migdale Woods. Come to learn and share information.

Note: we will NOT be visiting Spinningdale Mills as it is an unsafe structure.

Please wear stout footwear and bring waterproofs.

Meet Susan Kruse at junction A949 and Migdale road. There is very limited parking on the lane across from the Migdale road junction towards the Firth. Please car-share if possible.

Wednesday 8th October - Chambered cairns in the woods - 10.30am-3.30pm FREE

We will visit several chambered cairns in the woods and also look at the way the area has changed from natural wildwood to one used and managed by man. Walking over rough, boggy ground in parts. Reasonable level of fitness required. Please wear stout boots and bring waterproofs and a packed lunch.
