The oil company bills households individually. Kirkhill reported that 100 people have signed up on their scheme. It was proposed that Lou could do the Admin work during the winter months. YR recommended Oilfast as a good company to approach and it was agreed that we should email several to find out best prices. It was agreed that both business and private premises could be involved with the scheme. JOG trail and map update: JB thanked NH for getting Acorn Signs to finish the signs. Castle Hotel Advertising screen: JB has provided jpgs of events for display. DTAS accepted application for membership. JB to attend the conference. Up 17% in July at 4764 visitors, which gives year date increase of 15%.b. Business Groupi. Arda Glamping, Bonar Bridge have applied to be part of the business group. There was some discussion about how far away from Dornoch it is acceptable for members to be. It was agreed that each application should be considered on a case by case basis. PM advised that we should go on year by year basis and it was agreed to accept Arda for one year initially. It was also agreed that Glamping properties should be listed under CAMPING and that locations should be explicit on the website, for example how many miles outside Dornoch the location is. ii. Dornoch from the Air has had so many enquires that the advert has been taken down for now. It was agreed to add Afternoon Tea at Links House & Castle Hotel to Do More experiences for the winter months.c. Developing the Cruise Liner market.i. Thistle Tours will focus on Dornoch as a destination and MDC Taxis will try to build on Dornoch tours for next year. d. Month by month plan.i. Sutherland Show: JM reported that the Sutherland show was on a par with last year. ii. Donegal to Dornoch: YR said she thought they had made a slight loss. However, the committee will still go ahead and plan for next year. She expressed the view that the music/dance events should be spread over the year more to maximise attendance. iii. The Games were very successful although the evening dance was quiet, and PM reported that they just broke even. This was probably due to Belladrum and Golspie Gala being on the same night. iv. Festival Week: A very successful week with much praise going to the new committee. The 80s night after the Pram Race was very well attended. v. Off Season Planning: JB reported on the meeting with key Business Group Members. Castle Hotel: lots of specialist whisky & dining events over winter. Private dining room to open shortly. Dornoch Distillery: Moving to Banks yard. They are in the process of crowdfunding a visitor centre there. Royal Golf Hotel: They will be having the launch of the Golf apartments in November. Kincraig: They hold a Crafters Weekend in October. They have a stand at the Eastgate and will display a pop-up banner advertising Dornoch. Other methods of generating business in the winter were Spa Breaks, themed tastings fro 3 days over St Andrews fair, Blog or Magazine articles aimed at Inverness to Thurso market. YR thought it would be good to market other experiences, for example chocolate making workshops and post on the NC500 site YR suggested a Tipsy Tea Party during January as these are popular elsewhere. vi. Marketing 2019 Of the few feedback forms that have been filled in, the bedroom folders have not been mentioned. However the leaflets are doing well. It was therefore agreed to replace folders with leaflets in all areas. YR suggested that leaflet be put on the Orkney Ferry and Orkney B & Bs and Visitor Centre. vii. Project CurlewGS informed that the Stage 1 Application had not been successful. He said that the feedback had been conflicting and he was waiting for a letter to explain. The plan is to re-apply on 7th September and we will know by 5th October. GS reported on a meeting with Les Reid ANM and a breakdown of communication between ANM and the Golf Club. JM reported that another party was now interested in the bottom portion of the land. YR reported that the Community Council saw the provision of a coach park and toilets by the Golf Club at Dornoch South as part of the overall package which included the new clubhouse and review of the common good lease. YR to arrange a meeting with the Golf Club.g. Dornoch Police Stationi. Update: Silverback Gym are visiting the Police Station on 29th. Community Council YR reported that the public are pleased at the measures planned at the beach to prevent Motorhomes parking. Cones are working temporarily. PM is talking to George Mackay about taking over the Christmas lights from Michael Banks. The CC is now running the beach toilets with volunteer key-holders and a paid cleaner. AM asked if the bollards at the beach were moving the problem elsewhere. It was agreed that there needs to be a long-term solution. YR thought that a lease of the ground from the toilets to the car park with a designated Motorhome waste disposal area might be an answer. ii. DADCA: PM said that the finances were healthy. He expressed concern that the Social Club may lose its biggest tenant if the Police Station project goes ahead. However, if Curlew is also successful and has a community hall in it, there may be no need for the Social Club. DADCA and DACIC need to continue to work closely together. iii. Embo Trust: JM reported that the Community Hub works were coming to an end and there would be an opening party at the end of October.
