Proncynain Cemetery extension

Message from Cllr Jim McGillivrary
There has been some Facebook comment about headstones being broken during the extension works at Proncy. I have followed this up immediately and two Bereavement Officers have visited the site during their days off, and have provided me with the following statement:
We visited the cemetery yesterday. Although both on leave, due to the statement that a stone had been broken, we had to investigate. We spoke to our memorial mason contractor, who assured us there were no stones broken during the process of removal to protect the memorials. Two stones of similar design (books) had to be dis-assembled to their original manufactured components to ensure there was no damage to their fragile condition. These memorials will be assembled when they are being sited in their original location, in the same or better condition as when they were removed, as will all the other memorials.
We hope this assures the families of those interred, along with Members, that every precaution is being taken to protect these memorials but in the unlikely event of damage, families affected will be contacted and repair/replacement will be done.”
It would be helpful if people could makes sure the above assurances are circulated to anyone worried about the work at the cemetery. Thank you.
